Free book teaches kids about wonders of water

The Great Book of Water is a children's book written by Denise Pouleurs, who is an environmental engineer and water utilities manager in Latin America.
Pouleurs noticed a lack of children's books about water in Spanish and decided to write one herself. During the pandemic, she researched, wrote and illustrated the book, which covers topics such as the water-cycle, ecosystems and sustainability.
The Great Book of Water aims to give children educational and inspirational resources about water in multiple languages. It emphasises the importance of understanding water's role in daily life, highlights the concept of water footprint, addresses local water issues and promotes sustainability.
"I wanted to buy a book for my niece about water. There were a few children’s books in English and French, but none in Spanish. I thought I have enough material in my head to write a book for children.”
The book is now available in Spanish, Portuguese and English, and is used by schools, libraries and NGOs in Latin America and India to educate children about water.
"An important message of the book is that water is used in everything," says Pouleurs. "One of the things the book teaches children is about their water footprint, which is more than the amount of water they use, but about how water is used to produce everything."
Pouleurs believes everyone has a story or idea that can make a real difference, and she is grateful for the opportunity to create positive change through her work.
Digital versions of the book are available for free on Amazon.
