Australian Olympic swimmers mark World Oceans Day

Australian Olympic swimmers showcased their Paris 2024 routine at an underwater museum to mark World Oceans Day, on 8 June.

The performance took place at the Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA), situated on the John Brewer Reef, Queensland, Australia.

Called Diving into Greatness, the event was part of a collaboration between MOUA and Artistic Swimming Australia (ASA) to raise awareness of the Great Barrier Reef and serve as a visual reminder of the importance of corals around the world.

The Olympic team is a supporter of MOUA’s #SmallChanges campaign, which emphasises that while the Great Barrier Reef and corals around the world are in trouble, they are also resilient and worth protecting.

Christian Bartens, MOUA board of directors, said,The stunning coral growth on the museum’s underwater art is living proof of the reef’s resilience, and the support of the Australian Olympic team is a timely reminder of the amazing things we can achieve if we work together as a team.

"Not just Olympic athletes but all of us. Just being out there on the reef with the Olympic team has been a great inspiration."
