Foal play suspected in drain rescue
Workers from a UK water company put their rescue skills to the test after a foal became trapped in a drainage tunnel.
Technical support advisers Daniel Clemenson and Adam Tindle, and operations support assistant Anth Carver, from Northumbrian Water's sewage team, were installing cameras in a drainage system when they heard nearby cries from a distressed horse.
On investigation they found a mare who was communicating with her baby, which had become trapped in an underground tunnel known as a culvert.
"Once they managed to coax the youngster out and when the rescue was complete, both the mother and baby ran off into the sunset together!"
The three entered the tunnel to coax out the trapped foal. After a lot of manoeuvring, the foal and its mother were finally reunited and ran off together.
According to Northumbrian Water, it is believed the poor pony was stuck in the culvert for a few days before being rescued by the team.
A spokesperson from Northumbrian Water said, "Once they managed to coax the youngster out and when the rescue was complete, both the mother and baby ran off into the sunset together! A lovely story, and great work by those involved!"
